For DT Meerkats have been investigating bread. We made some bread rolls in small groups. We mixed all of the ingredients together before kneading the dough. Then we divided the dough up so we could all make our own bread roll before putting them in the oven to cook. We had great fun making them!
During our topic afternoon this week we looked at a medieval banquet like the one Richard III would have eaten at his coronation. We then compared this to the coronation banquet menu Queen Elizabeth II had. We finished the afternoon by making our own banquet, talking about the importance of including lots of healthy fruits and vegetables, as well as foods that give us energy. We made silver cups, just as they drank out of in medieval times, and considered eating without the introduction of the fork. Lots of children pointed out that sugary foods are bad for you, so it was best not to include lots of them.
This week in Topic, Tigers have been finding out about the different castles built by the Normans. They built Motte and Bailey castles and Keep and Bailey castles. Keep and Bailey castles have walls which are 5 metres wide. We made a 5 metre line in the playground.
We want to saw a HUGE well done to all of year 6 for all their incredible hard work this week. You have all tried your very best and done both yourselves and us proud!
A big thank you to Ben and his Nan for making these lovely cakes for the year 6’s; they were very greatly received by all the children and staff!
Year 6 spent Friday lunchtime at the Prom having chips and free time to congratulate them for all of their hard work!
This week, in Leopard Class, we have started sewing our sunglasses case as part of our DT project this term. We carefully cut out our designs, used running stitch to sew them on and then began using a whip stitch to sew the sides of our cases together. We cannot wait to continue next week!
