This week Tigers have started their new Topic, Castles. The children thought about who built the first castle and drew a picture showing what they think the first castle looked like.
In English, Meerkats have been learning our discussion text on whether Daleks should be allowed to live on Earth or not. We have been learning the text by symbol mapping it.
This week we started to learn about Humanism. We looked at some of their key beliefs and famous humanists; we then had to summarise the religion in one sentence. Finally, made a collage of the quotes we found most inspiring.
In year 5, we have been practising using an atlas to locate given continents, countries and physical features such as mountains and rivers. We found that atlases contain other useful information such as climate, farming and trade products and how this information is recorded. We easily located information using the index and grid references.
In zebras we have started our new topic about castles and the focus for this week has been our new text; The Princess and the Pea. Children have spent time learning the story and laying on a very uncomfortable mattress to produce their own creative writing using amazing adjectives. On Wednesday afternoon the classroom was turned into an art gallery and the children spent time studying portraits by famous artists. They were able to explain what they liked and didn’t like about the art work. Over the next few weeks, the children will produce their own self portrait with an inspirational flair from their famous artists.
